character info

Name: Valerie Margot Debarre.
Age: 20ish
Height and weight: 5'6" and 120lbs
Body type: slender but muscular
Eyes: caramel brown
Hair: long and dark brown/black, naturally pretty wavy though she tends to wear it straight more often than not
Nationality: Canadian (Québécois to be precise)
Birthday: October 9th
Other phys. traits: Valerie freckles pretty noticeably during the summer but they tend to fade quickly when she stops spending so much time outside. She has a long scar on one shin from when she went through a fence tobogganing when she was a kid, and a smaller one on her abdomen from when she got her appendix out. Other than that, she has a few little scars on her knuckles and knees, little scrapes that she picked up through her life.

Preferred outfits: Valerie tends to keep up with current fashions, though not with any kind of ferocity. She buys what she thinks is cute, and if that's du jour, then great. She likes to be comfortable, and will often choose her clothes based on that. Jeans, t-shirts, cute blouses, flat shoes, those are what she tends to stick to. Every now and then she'll wear a cute dress, but more often than not she'll pick jeans over a skirt, because she doesn't have to shave her legs when she wear pants.

Family background: Valerie is the oldest of three and the only girl. Her two brothers are still in middle school, and she loves them very much. Her parents divorced when she was twelve (around the time her mutation started to manifest), and while she went to live with her dad, her brothers lived with their mom. She wishes she could see them more often, but they live far away now, and there's no much she can do about it.
General history: Valerie grew up in Montreal. Her parents both worked at Université de Montréal, and for the first half of her life, everything was going great for her. And then she started to realize that she could manipulate the flow of time, making fun activities last longer and boring ones take less time. It wasn't just her own time she was manipulating, though, she was also affecting those around her. Her parents, afraid of and for her, started to fight over how to handle their strange daughter. By the time she was twelve, her parents had split, and she had elected to go live with her father. Her talents helped her skim her way through high school, but it became clearer and clearer that she wasn't able to control her abilities as much any more, and reluctantly, her father shipped her off to go study at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters when she was fifteen. She's been there ever since.
Schooling: More or less the same as anyone else, but she's remained at Xavier's even though she's technically graduated, still working on controlling her powers.
Talents and skills: Valerie is a very good artist, and often makes time stretch around her as she draws so that she can fully appreciate what it is she's working on. She's got a good singing voice but no real training, and although she owns a guitar, she can't really play much more than a handful of chords on it. She speaks French and English, and she's teaching herself Spanish too. She's a good cook, but often is too lazy to bother, and so mooches off someone else in the kitchen or orders food to be delivered in.
Special powers: Time manipulation.

General personality: Valerie is much like any other twenty-something. She's a little too interested in pop culture and not really interested enough in the news, feeling that most of what goes on in the world doesn't affect her and she couldn't affect it either even if she wanted to. She likes to read, and is somewhat introverted, but she's by no means shy. She just likes her solitude, and often finds herself getting snappish and irritable if she can't withdraw for a little while so that she can do whatever it is she wants to do without interruption. When she spends time with her friends, she likes to bring along her phone or her computer, so that she can be in proximity to those she likes, but also be able to withdraw slightly when she needs to. She isn't ignoring them when she's on her computer, this is just how she socializes best. She can be loud and boisterous when the situation calls for it, though, talking over her friends and laughing uproariously at an inside joke.
MBTI: ISFP
Maturity: Valerie is fairly mature for her age, but she's not really ready to push out on her own just yet. She's too comfortable at Xavier's and too afraid of what might happen if she loses control of her abilities to really want to be truly independent just yet.
Relationship status: straight and single
Social standing: Valerie isn't unpopular, but she's no head cheerleader. She has her own circle of friends, and that suits her just fine.
Philosophy/Values: For the most part, Valerie is concerned primarily with herself. It's not that she doesn't care for others, or that she won't help them if she can, but ultimately she looks out for herself first, and then others after. She still cares deeply for her friends and family, but she has learned that she needs to put her own needs first, because it's rare that someone else won't do the same. She's never been in a situation where someone she loved was threatened or hurt, so she's never had to think about what she would do if that happened.
Quirks and mannerisms: Valerie has a slight stammer when she's nervous or if she's reading aloud. Most of the time she has learned to compensate, but every now and then she finds herself stumbling on her words. She also chews her lips, despite the fact that she has a chapstick of some kind or other stashed everywhere.
